PROTOTYPE 2
The primary focus for Biocap's second prototype is scalability. Building on the success achieved in the summer of 2023, research findings have indicated that our filtration system warrants further development. In our efforts to enhance scalability, we have developed a modular system that enables the deployment of multiple pods to expand our operational capacities.
Alongside the emphasis on scalability, BioCap is also engaged in exploring various extraction methods such as electrocoagulation, centrifugation, heating, and our current most efficient method, parallel filtration. Exploring these alternate concentration techniques will help us enhance our algae harvesting capability.
PROTOTYPE 1
During the summer of 2023, BioCap's first prototype was built and tested. This was a big first milestone, but in order to achieve the scale of carbon capture BioCap is targeting, a larger, more capable system is required. To help achieve this, the BioCap team is developing a digital model that can be used to scope the design, scale it, and optimize the system's performance. Prototype 1.0 served as a test case that BioCap can use to test correlate the digital model and inform improvements to the model. This is critical for instilling confidence in future designs and ensuring we maintain a net-negative carbon footprint.
